1. Four LeT Terrorists Gun Down BSF Jawan

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, Rameez Ahmad Parrey, was shot dead by four Lahkar-e-Taiba terrorists in Bandipora’s Hajin in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, 27 September.

North Kashmir IG Nitish Kumar confirmed the involvement of LeT terrorists.

Constable Parrey, who was posted in Baramulla town with the 73 battalion, had come home for a holiday. Militants forced their way into the Kashmiri jawan’s house at Parrey Mohalla and fired indiscriminately at his family.

2. Tarun Tejpal Charged With Rape, Pleads Not Guilty

In a setback to the former Tehelka editor, Tarun Tejpal, Goa's Mapusa court refused to stay the framing of charges on Thursday. Tejpal has been accused of raping and assaulting a colleague in 2013.

Speaking to reporters, Tarun Tejpal’s lawyer said that his client was charged with rape, sexual harassment and wrongful restraint, to which Tejpal pleaded not guilty.

Tejpal challenged the framing of charges against him by the Additional North Goa District and Sessions court.

The High Court will continue hearing in the case on 21 November.

3. Two Years After Dadri: Akhlaq’s Family Awaits Justice

On 28 September, two years ago, 58-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was woken up from his sleep by an angry mob. They first went for his refrigerator, found some meat, abused him, and finally picked up some bricks from under his bed to smash his skull.

His 22-year-old son Danish was beaten unconscious.

This happened in Bisahara in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. A well-connected village, only 60 kilometres from Delhi. But the 18 accused who were arrested are now on bail. Charges are yet to be framed.

The family is still awaiting justice.

5. Will India Make it to Round of 16 in U-17?

Twenty four teams are participating in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup being played in India starting 8 October. The only team to have qualified for the tournament without playing a match is India.

By virtue of being hosts, India booked an automatic qualifying spot for the tournament and they start their campaign on the first day of the event, 6 October.
