1. EC Bars CM Yogi From Campaigning for 72 Hrs, Mayawati for 48

The Election Commission on Monday, 15 April, “strongly condemned” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP supremo Mayawati for their communal remarks and barred them from campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, for 72 hours and 48 hours, respectively. The two separate EC orders, effective from 6 am on Tuesday, said that the two have also been “censured” for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Mayawati was issued the notice for her speech in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoband appealing to Muslims to not vote for a particular party. The BSP chief had prima facie violated the model code of conduct, the poll panel found.

Adityanath was served the notice for his "Ali" and "Bajrang Bali" remarks while addressing a rally in Meerut.

He compared the Lok Sabha elections to a contest between 'Ali', a revered figure in Islam, and Bajrang Bali, the Hindu god Hanuman.

2. SC on Modi Biopic: EC to Watch Film, Submit Report

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Election Commission to watch the film "PM Narendra Modi", a biopic on the Prime Minister, and submit it's report in a sealed cover to the court by the end of this week.

A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, and Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna, has scheduled the hearing of the writ petition filed by film producer, Sandeep Singh, on April 22.

3. India Announce ICC World Cup Squad: No Place for Rishabh Pant

Conservative’ would be one way to describe India’s 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup this summer that was announced on Monday afternoon in Mumbai.

While 12 members, including KL Rahul, were automatic picks, the big decision was to be made between Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik for the reserve keeper’s spot, between picking Ravindra Jadeja or a fourth seamer and on who would be India’s number four batsman.

Going for experience, the selection panel picked Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja while Vijay Shankar will bat at number four this summer.

4. Uproar Over Azam Khan’s ‘Underwear’ remark

An FIR was registered Monday against senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for his "underwear" jibe against BJP leader and film actor Jaya Prada who is fighting the Lok Sabha polls from Rampur against him.

On Sunday, without naming the actor, Khan told the gathering in an election rally in Rampur "... you got represented (by her) for 10 years. "People of Rampur, people of Uttar Pradesh and people of India, it took you 17 years to understand her reality. But, I could recognise it in 17 days that she wears a khaki underwear. (Rampur waalo, Uttar Pradesh waalo, Hindustan waalo, usski asliyat samajhne mein aapko 17 baras lag gaye. Main 17 dinon mein pehchaan gaya ki inke neeche kaa jo underwear hai, woh khaki rang kaa hai),” said Khan.

5. Jet Pilots Ask PM to Save Jobs, Defer No-Flying Call Ahead of Meet

The Jet Airways’ pilots’ body National Aviator’s Guild (NAG), ahead of a key meet on Monday, 15 April, urged the prime minister to help save 20,000 jobs. Besides, it also appealed to the State Bank of India to release Rs 15,000 crore for the airline’s survival, news agency PTI reported.

Earlier on Sunday, keeping into consideration, a meeting between the Jet Airways’ management and the lenders slated to take place on Monday, the carrier’s pilots deferred their "no flying" call, which was to kick in on 15 April, to a later date.
