1. Supreme Court Wants NIA to Probe Kerala ‘Love Jihad’ Case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the National Investigating Agency to probe the Kerala Love Jihad Case. The probe will be supervised by former SC judge Justice RV Raveendran.

Responding to the SC's order, the Kerala government said it had no objection to the NIA probe if that's what the apex court desired. The NIA has been roped into the probe after it observed that “love jihad is real”. According to News18, the SC had asked the NIA to access the case records from the Kerala Police to get a better picture. The NIA had said that it had observed a pattern of conversion in Kerala.

2. Tripura CM’s Speech Given ‘Wide Coverage’: DD Refutes CPM’s Charge

Doordarshan allegedly refused to broadcast the speech of CPI(M) leader and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. Sitaram Yechury, another prominent CPI(M) leader, accused Prime Minister Modi of “instructing his cronies to black out voices”.  However, soon after, India’s Public Service Broadcaster issued a clarification on Wednesday, refuting allegations of blackout of Sarkar’s speech.

In another development, UP madarsas opposed the government’s diktat to sing the national anthem on Independence day and record it on video. Students of Islamic schools instead sang Saare Jahan Se Acha and did not capture it on camera.

3. NIA Conducts Searches in Srinagar, Handwara in Terror Funding Case

There were fresh raids in Jammu and Kashmir at the residence of two government officials in a terror funding case on Wednesday. The raids were carried out by the NIA against the officials who have close links with a prominent businessman under investigation since June this year. The businessman is, however, not in official custody, allegedly as a result of his high-profile connections.

4. Rohith Vemula Not a Dalit, UoH Action Justified: Roopanwal Report

Over a year after Rohit Vemula committed suicide in January 2016, the Ashok Kumar Roopanwal Commission report was made public on Tuesday. The report has created waves because it claims it was Rohith’s unhappiness with ‘worldly affairs’ and his own problems that led to his suicide. It also exonerates union ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya, claiming they were only discharging their duties. This is the first official release of the report even though it was already leaked to media last year.

5. ‘Game of Thrones’ Leaked Again, Gets Aired on HBO Spain By Mistake

*Spoiler Alert*

Just a day after 4 people were arrested by the Mumbai police in relation to the leaking of an episode of the popular series Game of Thrones online earlier this month, comes news of yet another leak. According to reports online, HBO Spain aired the forthcoming episode 6 of season 7 of the series “by mistake for one hour”. A thread on Reddit had a screenshot of a TV screen airing the episode.
