Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Indresh Kumar raised eyebrows on 5 June, after he claimed that the Prophet and his family never consumed meat.
They (the Prophet and his family) used to say meat is a disease and milk is a cure.
He made the comments at an event at New Delhi’s Jamia Milia University. Students of the varsity protested Kumar’s visit to the campus. The RSS leader had been invited to be the chief guest at an iftar party at the campus by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, the Muslim wing of the RSS.
The students reportedly argued that the RSS had made anti-Muslim comments in the past, and claimed the event was just appeasement. Some of the students raised the slogan: “Iftar inka bahaana hain. Sanghwaad phailana hain, (Iftar is an excuse to spread RSS’ ideology),” reported Hindustan Times.
Even as the protesters continued their sloganeering, Kumar said those who kill animals and consume their meat were consuming poison.
Incidentally, this is not the first time Kumar has made incendiary remarks. In the past, he made statements to suggest western culture and Valentine’s Day were responsible for rape and violence in India.
