Hours after the conclusion of Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Ahmedabad, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 12 March, at a rally in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, saying she was saddened by what was happening in the country as “hatred is being spread.”

This was Gandhi’s first election rally, after taking charge as the secretary of the AICC in eastern Uttar Pradesh in January.

“Our institutions are being destroyed. Wherever you see, hatred is being spread... This country is made on the foundations of love, harmony and brotherhood. Today whatever is happening in the country is very sad,” Gandhi said at her rally.

Further expressing concerns over issues such as jobs and women safety, she added:

“Issues which should be raised must comprise as to what is most important for you and how can you move forward. How will youth get jobs, how will women feel safe, what will be done for farmers? These are the issues for elections.”

CWC Meeting in Ahmedabad

During the CWC meeting that was chaired by its President Rahul Gandhi, the Congress lashed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating the latter was "cynically exploiting" the issue of national security to divert attention from his "colossal failures" and "persistent falsehoods".

The meeting was attended by UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad along with leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Ahmed Patel.

As per PTI reports, Sonia Gandhi during the meeting accused PM Modi of playing the "victim card" as she said people of the country were the victims of his "wrong policies".

Former PM Manmohan Singh also addressed the meeting and talked about the agrarian crisis, hampered industrial growth and unemployment under NDA government.

Prior to the meeting, Congress leaders arrived at the Sabarmati Ashram for a prayer meet to mark the anniversary of the Dandi March.
