PM Modi inaugurated a synthetic athletics track and a stadium in Usha School of Athletics on Thursday. Speaking via video conference, Modi praised former spring queen PT Usha.
“Usha school and will provide modern facilities to the trainees P T Usha has been a shining light of sports in India she endured several challenges in life and went on to enter olympics final,” he said.
The 8-lane 400 meter synthetic track was funded by a 8.5 CR grant to boost the training facilities at the school. PT Usha’s brainchild project was originally sanctioned in 2011. The synthetic track is a complete PUR(polyurethane running) track to minimise the chances of injuries.
Taking about the Pan-India’s scheme ‘Khelo India’ Modi said that the Centre plans to provide world class sporting infrastructure to benefit Indian sportspersons.
“ We launch a program "Khelo India" under this programme competitions will be held in various disciplines from the school and college level to the national level. Focus will be on identifying talents by providing sports,” He added.
