Police have denied permission to a Muslim family in Moradabad, who approached the authorities seeking permission to serve buffalo meat at a family function.
The family said they had arranged for buffalo meat to be served at the engagement ceremony before the government’s clampdown on slaughterhouses and that they had decided to get written permission in order to carry out their plans.
The family has said that they have turned to vegetarian dishes as they are worried that the meat seller’s protest may affect the supply of chicken for the ceremony.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, the father of the bride, said that he had made alternative arrangements for the guests at the function after his plea was denied. Around 300 people are expected to attend the event.
The local administration should exempt such ceremonies from the crackdown on slaughterhouses.Sarfaraz Ahmed
Meanwhile, meat sellers across Uttar Pradesh have announced an indefinite protest, following the BJP government’s crackdown on ‘illegal’ slaughter houses in the state.
