In what is being alleged to be a case of medical negligence, a newborn died at a district hospital in Madhya Pradesh after the mother was allegedly denied a wheelchair by the staffers.
ANI reports that the woman delivered the child as she was walking to the delivery room, following which the child fell onto the floor head first and died.
The father of the child told ANI:
It was my first child. Because we were denied a wheelchair I lost my child. The staff nurse said that there was time to deliver the baby and forced her to walk to the delivery ward. If they had given a wheelchair, my child would have been alive.
The hospital staff have vowed to take action in the case
‘No Aadhaar Card, No Admission to Hospital’
The Betul incident was reported two days after a pregnant woman in MP's Jaunpur district was allegedly turned away from a hospital. The woman was allegedly refused treatment after doctors at the medical centre told her on 29 January that she could not be admitted because she had no Aadhaar card or bank account
The woman’s husband told reporters:
When we went to the hospital, the staff sent us back, saying they won’t admit her. She (the doctor) asked for some documents which we didn’t have, so she sent us back. As soon as we moved out she gave birth outside the hospital.
The medical superintendent later rejected the claim.
