Rio will lead the 'People's Democratic Alliance' government in partnership with the BJP. BJP's Y Patton took the oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
Ten other ministers were also administered the oath of office. These included five from the BJP, three from the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), an independent MLA and a JD(U) member.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, BJP President Amit Shah and the BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, and others attended the ceremony.
Outgoing Chief Minister TR Zeliang was also present at the function.
Rio had staked claim to form the government on 4 March with the support of 32 legislators in the 60-member house — 18 MLAs from NDPP, 12 from BJP, one from the JD(U) and an independent MLA.
The Nagaland governor has asked Rio to prove his majority on the floor of the House on or before 16 March.
