Amidst communal tensions across the country, Moin Memon, a Muslim, is restoring a 500-year-old Hanuman temple in Ahmedabad.
This is a 500-year-old temple. I sought permission from the priest to renovate it, to which he said that I should definitely work on it since I was the first person to ask. I am working on it with all my heart and faith and feel absolutely lucky to have been a part of this.Moin Memon
Memon’s neighbours do not have any problems with a Muslim renovating their old age temple. They say that they offered Memon financial and other help but Memon refused and wished to bear the entire cost of the renovation.
This temple of ours is surrounded by Muslims and no matter what happens in Ahmedabad, these Muslims have always taken care of our temple. They have been staying in front of our temple and have been protecting it forever. Nobody from the neighbourhood has harmed it.Jatin Gaur, Hindu resident
Memon wants to keep this project away from politics and says that he took it up because he has faith in this. He grew up in the area and feels attached to the temple.
This is not about politics. Its about faith. Political people will not be able to survive unless they make an issue out of Hindu-Muslims. But if two sects do not get along in a society, then God too does not wish to be there. This is my message for everybody.Moin Memon
Memon is personally overlooking the renovation. Workers who are helping him in the project feel that everybody needs to take inspiration from him.
Moin bhai has set an example of unity between Hindus and Muslims. He proved that whether it’s Hindus or Muslims, they all have the same gods. They all worship the same Eshwar and Allah.Pratish Jariwala, worker
