Former Indian captain MS Dhoni lent his support to current captain of Indian cricket team Virat Kohli’s statement that Indian team is playing too much cricket and they are not getting enough time to practice for international tours.

(What he has said) is correct to a certain extent. The reason is that we play so much cricket that we don’t get time to prepare for away tours. But as an international cricketer, this is also a challenge. There are quite a few players in the current squad that have played on away tours. Even if they get 8-10 days (to adjust in foreign conditions) I am confident that they will do well.

Dhoni, who holds an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, interacted with budding cricketers in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir and emphasised on the need to focus on fitness. He interacted with the locals and also attended a cricket match between two local teams. After the match, the wicketkeeper-batsman hoped that more Kashmiris will find their way to Indian squad.

We should aim at representing Indian team. For that, you have to perform consistently. I agree that there may be lack of facilities (in Kashmir). But we also didn’t have all the facilities when we were growing up. Make the most of the opportunities that you have. In the near future, a lot of players will come from Kashmir.
