The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recorded a thumping win in all the three municipal corporations in Delhi, winning 184 of the 270 seats on offer. Aam Aadmi Party, making it debut in the municipal polls, managed just 46 seats while the Congress was reduced to 30.
AAP's humiliating defeat plunged the party into a crisis, even as its top leadership blamed the poll decimation on tampering of EVMs. “EVM tampering is the bitter truth of the country’s democracy,” Delhi deputy CM and AAP leader Manish Sisodia declared.
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken offered to resign from his post, accepting moral responsibility for the party’s abysmal performance.
It is a reasonable revival of the Congress but I had hoped for something better than this. I had expected to perform a little better. So, as the president of Delhi Congress, I take moral responsibility and offer to resign from my post.
