Shocking footage has emerged from China showing a massive sinkhole on a street swallowing a minivan and a nearby tree in the eastern city of Nantong.
Incessant rains lashing the province of Jiangsu over the past few days might have led to the incident. In the video, underground pipes are seen bursting as the sinkhole enlarges, bringing portions of the road and a tree inside it.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident as the van was unmanned.
Eastern Asia has a history with roads falling prey to sinkholes. Fukuoka city in Japan made headlines last year when a 30-metre-wide cavity was formed on a street.
