A day after five farmers were killed in alleged firing by MP police in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan imposed curfew and suspended internet services as the situation spun out of control.

Farmers had been protesting for a week regarding loan waivers. The outraged farmers allegedly burned down vehicles, furiously chasing away officers and even scuffling with the Collector of the District.

Opposition backs farmers and blames the BJP for the situation. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi tweeted:

Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath also slammed the BJP for blaming the death of farmers on Congress.

2000 farmers have immolated themselves. They were cheated on minimum support price and their electricity bill. The anti-social elements on whom BJP is blaming the incident belong to BJP itself. Congress and Rahul Gandhi will fight for the rights of farmers. They are politicising the death of farmers by increasing the compensation.
