At Ambedkar’s School, Children Draw Daily Inspiration From Him

How do students and teachers feel to be associated with BR Ambedkar’s school.

The Maharashtra government declared 7 November 2017 as the first ‘Student’s Day’ in the state. This is the day BR Ambedkar joined Satara’s Pratap Singh High School.

With the aim to encourage kids from all economic and social backgrounds to study, Ambedkar’s school is trying to share stories from his childhood.

Before coming to our school, he used to study in Camp High School in Satara. He then took admission here in 1900. From 1900-04, he studied here. There was no conveyance back then. The kind of problems he faced are similar to the ones that these children face today. But when I tell them about Babasaheb Ambedkar’s experiences, they get encouraged to study further.

Students of the school talk about how they feel proud to be in the same school as Ambedkar.

When people ask us what school we study in, we tell them with pride that we study in the school, where Babasaheb Ambedkar studied. Ever since I came here, I have high hopes of doing something new.

Our teachers talks about him to us everyday. I wish I manage to do as little as 5% of what he did. It It will make me extremely happy. I will do at least my part.

While all schools and colleges across the state will celebrate student day, students of Pratap Singh High School believe it should be observed across the nation as an effort to pay respect to the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
