1. #TalkingStalking | Crackdown On Stalking a Must: Shashi Tharoor
The Quint is taking steps to ensure that stalking is made a non-bailable offence, through our campaign #TalkingStalking.
In the #TalkingStalking event organised by The Quint on Wednesday, 20 December, Dr Shashi Tharoor said that “supporting the cause was a no-brainer” and that even if his Private Member’s Bill that calls for stalking to be made a non-bailable offence does not get passed, it will be “heard and create awareness”.
He said that by the end of the Budget session, the Private Member’s Bill will be tabled in the Parliament.

2. Dhinakaran Camp Releases Clip of Jaya in Hospital Before RK Nagar Bypoll
Hours after a video of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa lying on a hospital bed in Chennai was released on Wednesday, 20 December, TTV Dhinakaran’s camp said that supporter P Vetrivel uploaded it without Dhinakaran’s permission.
DMK’s working president MK Stalin said that Jayalalithaa’s death “has not only been a mysterious one but has been politicised to its lowest level after the release of this video.” He added that the video will not have any impact on the RK Nagar bypoll.
Dhinakaran was not permitted to speak to the media, as per the election code of conduct, which came into force in RK Nagar, the bypoll for which would be held on 21 December.

3. Ryan School Murder: 16-Year-Old Accused Minor to be Tried as Adult
The 16-year-old student accused in the murder case of Pradyumn Thakur, a class 2 student of Gurugram’s Ryan International School, will be tried as an adult, the Juvenile Justice Board said on 20 December.
The Class 11 student was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 9 November. “The convict will be considered as an adult,” said Sushil Tekriwal, the lawyer of Pradyumn’s father.

4. Want to Take Exam, Not Lose a Year: Kerala Student Expelled for Hug

Little did the two know that the congratulatory hug could lead to suspension and potential expulsion from school.
The minor boy, who is in class 12 and due to give his board exams, said that he hugged his friend for just 3-5 seconds while there were other people around, as ANI reported.
I just hugged her for 3-5 seconds. A teacher walked past us, started shouting and took us to the Vice Principal. I was told to apologise and I did. But the teachers gave the friendly hug a sexual turn. They called my parents for the board meeting next day. School’s secretary used sexual slurs in front of my parents while describing the situation. I was served a suspension letter 50 days after the incident. I want to write my exams and not lose a year.
