1. ‘Judge Loya’s Death Natural’: SC Dismisses Petition for Independent Probe
The Supreme Court on Thursday, 19 April, dismissed petitions seeking independent probe into the death of special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya, who was hearing the high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake-encounter case. The Supreme Court judgment slammed the petitioners for “maligning” the judiciary.
Judge Loya died allegedly due to a cardiac arrest in Nagpur on 1 December 2014 when he had gone to attend the wedding of a colleague’s daughter.
The petitioners called the verdict a black day for the judiciary while, the BJP went on the offensive against both the petitioners and the Congress party calling the petitions an attempt "to settle political scores".

2. ‘Rape is Rape, Don’t Politicise the Cases’: PM Modi in London
On an official visit to the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, 18 April, addressed the 'Bharat ki Baat, Sabke Saath' programme at the iconic Central Hall Westminster in London where he spoke about the recent incidents of rape in India and also warned Pakistan against “exporting terror”.
At the diaspora event, moderated by CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) chairperson Prasoon Joshi, Modi also emphasised on his government's "development" and "pro-poor" agenda, saying that the days of incremental change are over, and even took digs at the previous governments.

3. Cash Shortage Problem to be Resolved by Tomorrow: SBI Chief
The problem of cash crunch being faced by some states will be resolved by tomorrow as currency is being transported to areas which are facing the shortage, SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar said on Thursday, 19 April.
Kumar said there are certain areas where there is a problem with running of ATMs and availability of cash of particular denomination.
"It is not a uniform cash crunch problem. It is there in geographies like Telangana and Bihar. We are hoping that the problem will be resolved by tomorrow because cash is in transition and it is reaching these states by today evening," Kumar told reporters in New Delhi.
The finance ministry said earlier this week that there is an unusual spurt in demand in some parts of the country like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, MP and Bihar. In the first 13 days of the current month, the currency demand went up by Rs 45,000 crore.
