1. Cash Crunch Across India: Jaitley Blames Unusual Spurt in Demand

Taking after the initial weeks that succeeded demonetisation, announced by the Narendra Modi government, non-availability of cash in ATMs have been reported in several states across India including poll-bound Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The national capital New Delhi has reportedly been hit by the cash crunch as well.

Finance Minister Arun jaitley, confirming the shortage, assured that there was adequate currency in circulation. He said that the shortage was triggered by a ‘sudden and unusual’ increase in demand.

3. PM Modi Meets Swedish Counterpart, Discusses Bilateral Cooperation

India and Sweden on Tuesday decided to strengthen their defence and security cooperation, and agreed on an innovation partnership for a 'win-win" outcome as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with his Swedish counterpart.

In a joint press statement after his talks with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, Modi said they focused on how Sweden can help India in its development journey.

The two sides have agreed an innovation partnership and a Joint Action Plan, the Prime Minister said.

4. Jodhpur Court Allows Salman Khan to Travel Abroad

Salman Khan was convicted for killing two blackbucks in Bhagoda ki Dhani in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the intervening night of 1-2 October, 1998, during the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain. On 5 April, Khan was sentenced to a five-year jail term by a Jodhpur trial court. He was released on bail from the Jodhpur Central jail on 7 April.

He resumed shooting for Race 3 last week and also kickstarted the filming of Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat on April 16. News18 reported that Salman Khan filed a plea in the Jodhpur court to seek permission to travel abroad to four countries. The court responded to his plea on 17 April.

The Sessions Court allowed him to travel to the US, Canada and Nepal from May 25 to July 10.
