Kochi Metro Reflects Make in India’s Vision: PM Modi in Kerala 

Kochi is the first Indian city to have a modern, open-loop smartcard that can be used with other modes of transport.

PM Modi inaugurated Kochi metro on Saturday, when he rode the new train with Kerala CM Pinayari Vijayan, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Governor P Sathasivam, MP KV Thomas, Minister Thomas Chandy and Mayor Soumini Jain.

TKochi is the first city in India that will have a modern, open-loop smart card which can be used with other modes of transportation, like buses or autos, and the Kochi metro card is a multipurpose card that can also be used as a normal debit card.

Kochi Metro thanked all the 1,000 women who worked hard to complete the metro rail on time and has also employed 23 transgender persons as ground staff.

Kochi was selected as a Smart City in Round one of the challenge in January 2016 and I hope it will do even better in the days to come
