JNU Guard Cracks Entrance Exam, Decides to Study Russian

34-year-old Ramjal Meena, a security guard at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), has succeeded in clearing the varsity’s entrance examination for a Bachelor’s course. He will now be pursue BA in the Russian language.

According to The Indian Express, Meena already holds an undergraduate degree from Rajasthan University (RU) and has also cleared the first year of Masters in Political Science from the varsity through distance learning. He now aims to appear for the UPSC examination and work for the government.

Meena hails from a remote village in Rajasthan.

As a child, he studied at a government school. However, he had to discontinue studying because of financial stress at home.

“The nearest college was 28-30 km away. Moreover, I had to work to help my father too”

Meena lives in a one-bedroom house with his wife and three daughters in Munirka.

“Though I got really busy addressing my family’s financial issues, the regret of not joining a regular college was always there. But when I saw the academic environment here, the dream was revived.”

Meena has chosen a foreign language course so that he can visit new places.
