Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the International Vesak Day celebrations on Friday as a part of his two-day visit to Sri Lanka. He interacted with leading Buddhist spiritual leaders, scholars and theologians, along with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Later, he also addressed the Indian origin Tamil community in Dickoya before metteing the representatives of the Tamil Progressive Alliance.
This was the first ever instance of Sri Lanka hosting the International Vesak Day.
