In an astonishing video, a residential building is seen crumbling down the slope in a landslide after incessant rainfall loosened the soil. The incident took place in the Mandikeri town of Karnataka’s Kodagu district.

The Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu district Srividya P told The News Minute that massive landslides were witnessed in several parts of Kodagu, even as roads and walkways were completely inundated by rains.

A high alert was declared across five rain affected districts – Kodagu, Dakshin Kannada, Hassan, Chikkaamagaluru and Shivamoga on 15 August.

Following landslides, Shiradi Ghat, a crucial link of National Highway 75 connecting Bengaluru and Mangaluru has been declared unmotorable. The decision to stop the traffic was announced by Assistant Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy who said all vehicles will be banned on this road till August 20.
