Hit-and-Run: 17-Year-Old Victim Was Riding Without Licence, Helmet

Atul Arora was returning home on a scooter when he was hit by a Mercedes moving at about 100 km/hour.

In yet another hit-and-run case, a 17-year-old boy died on the spot when he was hit by a Mercedes car in New Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area late on Sunday night. Atul Arora was returning home on his scoote, when he was hit and then dragged for several metres by the vehicle, according to an eye-witnesses account. They also added that the car was travelling at a speed of about 100 km/hour.

Arora was about to start the 12th grade academic year of on Monday. His 17th birthday was to follow soon after on 18 April. According to Hindustan Times., Arora was riding without a licence.

Arora was returning after dropping a friend on his mother’s scooter. His sister Ruchi told Hindustan Times:

He did not have a driving license. Since he was travelling nearby, we allowed him to use the scooter.

He was also not wearing a helmet, confirmed Rishi Pal, DCP (Outer District).

An FIR has been registered in the case and investigators are now scanning CCTV footage to identify the runaway vehicle’s driver. The police has not managed to trace the vehicle or identity the driver.

Arora’s father works with the Delhi Development Authority, while his mother is a teacher.

Earlier in January, a person died when two cars – a BMW and Wagon R – rammed into each other in New Delhi’s Munirka area.
