Harshita Dahiya, a 22-year-old singer, was shot dead on Tuesday, when she was returning to her residence in Delhi, after performing at a village in Panipat. The folk artist was accompanied by two of her assistants and a driver.

The singer, who was known for her Haryanvi folk songs, was shot six times in her neck and forehead, and died on the spot. When the singer was returning home, a black car overtook her vehicle near Chamara village and forced it to stall.

The men in the black car demanded that Harshita Dahiya, her two assistants, and her driver to step out of the vehicle. The assailants fired about six to seven times at the singer and escaped.

The singer had recently posted a video on a social media platform emphasising on the death threats she had received. She had stated that she is not afraid of the death threats.

Reports suggest that police are suspecting a gangster, who is related to the singer and is currently in Jhajjar jail, in the shooting. The gangster who happens to be the singer’s brother-in-law was convicted after Harshita Dahiya accused him of raping her in 2014.

The singer was popularly known for her Haryanvi ‘Ragini’ folk songs.
