Haryana is set to go to polls for the Assembly Elections on Monday, 21 October, and unemployment, crop prices and challans are among the issues that the senior citizens of the state are concerned about.

So, who will overpower whom in Haryana elections?

Who will the senior citizens side with?

The Quint’s chaupal with the ‘taaus’ (senior citizens) of Fatehabad, Haryana.

One local from Dharniya, Hanuman, said that it has become difficult to understand who you voted for because of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). “Don’t trust the EVM. With ballot paper, we used to know whom we are voting for,” he said.

A farmer, Prem said that they are not happy with the government’s loan waivers. “The government paid us Rs 2,000 to earn votes,” he added.

Some locals were not happy with the new Motor Vehicle Act, 2019, under which the challans for violations have increased.

“Challans for cars are wrong,” one man said, however, another believes that corruption has reduced. “Ram Rajya is coming,” he said.

But Satynarayan, a resident of Dharniya, disagreed,

“Bribe someone and the work will be done.”

The issues of jobs and lack of them remain an issue that trigger uneasy sentiments towards the government. “Locals are getting jobs in lower posts. For senior posts, people from Gujarat are being employed,” said Ram Pratap.
