Govt Explains Stand on Rohingyas

The Indian government does not want to welcome Rohingya Muslims who are fleeing persecution in Myanmar. In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Monday, the Modi government listed its four main concerns:

1. The large influx of illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries was altering the demographic profile of the bordering states.

2. They pose a serious national security threat.

3. The govt claims that some of them have links with Pakistan-based terror organisations.

4. And finally, some of them were found to be indulging in anti-national activities like mobilizing funds through Hawala networks, procuring fake IDs and human trafficking.

Whatever proof the govt has, was submitted to the Supreme Court in a sealed envelope. The matter will next be heard on Oct 3.
