Four men have been arrested for tying an 18-year-old girl to a pillar and publicly thrashing her in Bihar’s Kataiya village. The horrific incident has been caught on camera.

The girl was allegedly involved in a love-triangle with a local youth. The other woman involved in the affair accused the victim of leaking her objectionable photos on social media. This resulted in a dispute between the two girls.

When things turned sour, the village Panchayat advised them to not stay in touch with each other. However, on 3 May, the woman allegedly called the victim and asked her to come over to her place. On reaching her place, the victim was tied, and mercilessly thrashed, before being rescued by the police.

The girl was beaten up and photos and videos were posted online. We indentified the victim based on the photos. We interrogated the victim and also identified the people involved through the photos and videos. We then investigated the matter and managed to arrest four people involved in the thrashing.

The four men arrested in connection with tying and thrashing of the girl, have been identified as Sursen Kumar (25), Hansraj Kumar (27), Kanwal Kumar (22) and Meghnath Bargharia (23). An FIR was also lodged on the basis of a written complaint submitted by the 18-year-old.

“The Tharu tribes hardly approach the police for any matter and this incident was also solved by the Panchayat. No one had come to the girl’s rescue till we reached,” Gupta said.

We were banned from meeting each other. She was my friend. We used to talk and meet each other. We had a fight and we were banned from meeting by our families. She had called me and asked me meet her, so I went to her place.
