From Modi to Mufti, Leaders Celebrate the 71st Independence Day

India is celebrating its 71st Independence Day today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort, amid tight security cover.

Various political leaders, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, BJP chief Amit Shah, and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, among others, took part in Independence Day celebrations.

President Ramnath Kovind also joined the celebrations, by paying tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh unfurled the tricolour at his residence early on Tuesday morning.
