An adult elephant had fallen into a canal in Pibhuraththewa on Monday night and was spotted by villagers early next morning.

After the locals raised an alarm, a team of wildlife officials rushed in to help and used crackers, ropes and tyres to rescue the elephant. It took them nine hours to pull through the deep waters.

Once it was ashore, the fatigued animal chose to quickly run into the forest. Seems like it had enough of adventure!
