Eight Coaches of Rajya Rani Express Derail in UP’s Rampur

Sabotage not ruled out as portions of track found missing and buried: Uttar Pradesh Police

Eight coaches of the Rajya Rani Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district on Saturday. The train that runs between Meerut & Lucknow veered off the tracks near the Kosi bridge at around 8:15 am.

Speaking about the incident, Indian Railways PRO Anil Saxena said that two people have been injured in the incident and are being attended to by paramedics. Meanwhile, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu promised “strict action” into Saturday’s mishap. He also added that out of two lines, one is operational and the other has been blocked due to the accident.

The Railways Ministry has also an announced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Taking note of the accident, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has announced Rs 50,000 for each person seriously injured, and Rs 25,000 each to those with non-serious injuries.

‘Can’t Rule Out Sabotage’

Meanwhile,Uttar Pradesh police said a three-feet portion of the track was missing and that sabotage cannot be ruled out. KK Chaudhri, Rampur SP, who visited the accident site, said the track was found broken and some of its portion buried.

According to PTI, a railway source in New Delhi also said the derailment was caused, prima facie, due to the rail fracture.
