Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday termed the Centre’s demonetisation drive a “financial loot” aimed at benefiting the high and the mighty.
Addressing a political rally in Uttarakhand’s Almora, Gandhi announced that the BJP-led government’s move has destroyed the region’s crucial tourism industry. Taking a jibe at the Centre, the Congress VP also said that foods items such as ‘Bal Mithai’ – a popular sweet sold in the region – could not be purchased through digital wallets.
Making a reference to an Amitabh Bachchan film, Gandhi also said that the scheme is similar to the song Ram ram japna ghareeb ka maal apna (Keep singing Lord Ram’s name and robbing the poor of their money.)’
