Six people were killed after a four-storey building collapsed in Ghatkopar, Mumbai on the morning of 25 July. Several others are feared trapped under the debris of the building on LBS Road, near Shreyas Cinema in Ghatkopar West. The building was home to around 15 families.
Maharashtra Housing Minister Prakash Mehta confirmed that the hospital treating the injured reported four casualties. Eight people were injured in the mishap, and 16 people have been rescued so far.
Eight fire tenders, two rescue vans, and an ambulance were dispatched to the spot where rescue operations are currently underway.
Locals allege that the building collapsed due to renovation work being undertaken on ground floor nursing home owned by Shiv Sena's Sunil Shitap. BMC officials are yet to ascertain the reason behind the collapse.
