Days after the Congress and BJP engaged in a war of words over the Centre’s hesitance in announcing dates for Parliament’s winter session, the two parties came at loggerheads again on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP of delaying the parliament’s winter session, saying that the party in power at the Centre was afraid of opposition debate ahead of Gujarat elections.

Gujarat elections are a priority for the BJP, which is why they are stalling parliamentary discussions on topics such as GST. They are afraid that the opposition’s charge could expose them ahead of Gujarat elections.

Responding to Kharge, Union Law Minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad dared the Congress to declare that its ministers and lawmakers wouldn’t campaign for Gujarat elections, and would thereby remain present throughout the session.
