Gujarat is all set for assembly polls and the Supreme Court has deferred the date for hearing the Babri Masjid demolition case. The Congress and the BJP are leaving no stone unturned to point fingers at each other over the delay in the Ayodhya case hearing as well as the upcoming polls.

BJP president Amit Shah accused the Congress of adopting “double standards”, saying on one hand Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is on an “election tour of temples (mandir ka chunavi daura) in Gujarat, while his party wants the hearing on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case to be deferred.”

Congress spokerperson, Randep Surjewala, accused the BJP of trying to divert the attention of the people from the real issues in Gujarat, as it had “failed to answer” the questions on its 22 years of governance in the state.

The BJP chief said Gandhi should make the Congress’ stand on Ayodhya dispute.

Targeting Sibal, the BJP chief said, “Whenever the Congress wants to say something different, it fields Kapil Sibal. They made him say that zero loss had been incurred in the 2G spectrum case.”

BJP is perplexed and irritated. They are trying to avoid the questions asked by Rahul Gandhi. Now, Amit Shahi Ji is also asking questions rather than answering questions. Seeing power slip out of their hands, they are resorting to cheap strategies. He is trying to get votes in the name of lord Ram...Are you not trying to divert the focus from Gujarat elections?
Randeep Surjewala, Congress Spokesperson

The 182-member Gujarat Assembly will go to the polls in two phases – on 9 and 14 December. The counting of votes will be taken up on 18 December.
