On Wednesday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi entered the Lok Sabha, BJP MPs stood up and greeted their leader with slogans of Jai Shree Ram. The MPs were supposedly congratulating the Prime Minister after BJP formed government in Goa and Manipur despite not being the single largest party in the state.
However, in Rajya Sabha, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad accused the Union government of misusing the powers of Governor to their advantage. Azad demanded that the current state governments, in both Manipur and Goa, be sacked and leaders of Congress MLAs be sworn in as the new Chief Minister.
Arun Jaitley, the Leader of Upper House dismissed Azad’s charges. He said that the arguments of the opposition leader were put up in front of Supreme Court too, and the apex court didn’t buy them. He further added that in 2005 in Jharkhand, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, who won lesser seats then BJP in the Assembly elections, was invited by Governor to form government after they claimed majority with Congress’ support.
