At least 23 people were charred to death in a firecracker factory in Balaghat, MP that caught fire around 3 pm on Wednesday, 7 June. Bharat Yadav, Balaghat Collector said that the factory is legal but whether it worked within the permitted limits of explosives and practiced essential safety measures or not, is yet to be determined.
Reportedly, children were present in the factory, raising questions as to what were minors doing in restricted premises such as a firecracker factory. The factory was located away from human settlement. What triggered the fire is yet to be determined. Madhya Pradesh CM, Shiv Raj Chouhan expressed his grief over the mishap and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to family of the deceased. The injured needing medical aid will be assisted by government.
