In a dramatic turn of events following the Karnataka Assembly elections, the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) alliance had the last laugh, despite the Bharatiya Janata Party emerging as the single-largest party. “This has brought a new enthusiasm in the party”, said Congress MP and Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi while unveiling the party’s new strategy in a candid conversation with The Quint's Editorial Director Sanjay Pugalia.

Singhvi claimed that Congress will play a pivotal role in uniting the Opposition to take on the BJP.

In 2019, the Congress will play a big role. We will play a vital role in uniting the Opposition. The Congress does not need to retreat. We will see how the tactics differ from state to state. All I can say is that the Congress is not going to sit back. In fact, it will be a medium in these elections. The Congress doesn’t have any insecurities. The BJP is insecure.

‘We Tapped the Phones of BJP Leaders’

I feel good that the BJP is concerned about our MLAs. But the reality is that the way Lady M was used in Karnataka, it even surpassed Uttar Pradesh. It is true that we had asked them (Congress MLAs) to download an app on their phones. Some of the tapes even have Yeddyurappa’s voice. After all this, the BJP asks why we are protecting our MLAs?
