“My daughter’s wedding has been called off post this incident... They took away my shop’s keys…We are poor, we don’t know what to do. We are scared that they might kill us,” said Nalanda resident Mahesh Thakur.
Thakur was publicly humiliated – being made to spit and lick his own saliva off the ground. He had reportedly arrived at the sarpanch’s residence to avail a government scheme, but was accused of overstepping as he entered without knocking on the entrance door.
Although three people have been arrested in connection with the case, Thakur and his family still fear for their lives.
“The government or the local thana has done nothing to help. We live in constant fear,” he said while speaking to ANI.
