Over one night of Lathicharge multiple hostels in BHU started emptying out after authorities said they wouldn't be responsible for the safety of the students on campus.
Authorities said, we don’t know how safe you’ll be here and we can’t take the risks for it. So it will be good if you left for home and it will be good if you left today itself. That’s why we are leaving. This is the kind of safety here where in the middle of the night there was a Lathicharge on girls, they got into MMV ( Mahila Mahavidyala ) and beat us. So how can we say we are safe here?
Girls say being eve-teased and making comments on the campus has become an everyday occurrence.
21-year-old Nidhi Lata Tiwari who is in her MA 2nd year says these incidents that are happening, weather it is making comments or molesting girls - is happening with everyone!
"Not with one person and it is happening every single day. Even when we react they go ahead and look back and smile," Nidhi says.
Even professors from the campus say they feel unsafe and as they too need to weigh their words before they say anything.
While students leave the campus only time will tell weather comprehensive security measures will be taken to ensure women don't have to face such incidents again.
