Thirty-one-year-old software engineer from Bengaluru, Kumar Ajitabh has been missing since December 2017. Ajitabh had gone to meet a buyer who had contacted him through OLX but didn’t return home. His car could not be traced as well. Seven months have passed but the Karnataka CID has not made any headway. Ajitabh’s family, is therefore, now demanding CBI probe and appealing people for help.
Timeline of the Case:
18 Dec 2017: 31-year-old software engineer Ajitabh Sinha goes missing
5 Jan 2018: Ajitabh’s family moves Karnataka HC demanding CBI probe
17 Jan 2018: Karnataka HC orders police to form a SIT
12 Feb 2018: Police books Reliance Jio, an agent and a vendor for issuing a SIM on thebasis of falsified documents
14 March 2018: Case was referred to CID
Ajitabh was planning to take admission at IIM Kolkata and wanted to raise money for education by selling his car. His family has been running a campaign requesting people to send leads in case they see anyone resembling Ajitabh.
In a video message sent to The Quint, Ajitabh’s elder sister, Pragya Sinha shared how it has been a difficult time for the entire family:
They (probe agency) haven’t been able to nab the criminals who are still roaming free and have stolen the peace and happiness of my family.Pragya Sinha, Ajitabh’s sister
I humbly appeal to you to kindly look for him in your respective areas.Ashok Kumar Sinha, Ajitabh’s father
The incident also highlights the need for background check of users on online portals that provide a platform for various transactions. For Ajitabh’s family, a probe by the country’s premier investigating agency is the last ray of hope.
