A 50-year-old woman in Bareilly died of starvation after the family was allegedly denied ration because she was too unwell to go to the shop for biometric authentication necessary for Aadhaar.

Sakina’s husband finally took her to the ration shop on a cart. After that he was given the foodgrains but it was too late.

In the last few weeks, several deaths have been reported that are allegedly due to denial of ration for no Aadhaar link. Three brothers in Karnataka succumbed to hunger within a span of 15 days, allegedly because they were denied ration.

In another incident, a 11-year-old girl from Jharkhand’s Simdega district reportedly starved to death after her family was denied ration for over 6 months. The family’s ration card was allegedly cancelled as it wasn’t linked to Aadhaar.
