25 Charred to Death as Bus, Truck Collide in UP’s Bareilly

The bus was supposedly travelling from New Delhi to Gonda depot in Uttar Pradesh.

Around 25 people, including children, died in an accident involving the collision of a bus and a truck on the national highway early on Monday morning. Over 14 have been injured in the accident.

An Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus collided with a truck on NH-24 around 1 am, catching fire merely minutes later.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the passengers did not have time to evacuate as most of them were asleep at the time of the accident. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals.

Following the accident, Joginder Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bareilly said:

The accident involving a bus of UPSRTC and a truck took place between 1 am and 1.30 am. Twenty-two passengers of the bus died, while 15 received injuries.

The bus was supposedly travelling from New Delhi to Gonda depot in Uttar Pradesh. The driver of the bus is also among the deceased, while the conductor received serious injuries. The driver of the truck is absconding.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of lives in the bus accident and sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of those killed.

He announced Rs 50,000 for each of those injured in the collision.

The bus accident in UP’s Bareilly is heart-rending. I condole the loss of lives. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest.
