The Utkal train derailment, which claimed several lives, is the latest in a string of rail mishaps in the country. However, the Railway authorities don’t seem to have learnt a lessons from the tragedy, as is evident from the visuals of the Chitrakoot mela.

The UP district is all decked up to host lakhs of pilgrims for its annual mela. The festival, which commenced on 21 August, often sees mela attendees travelling on the roof of the trains to get to the venue.

These visuals have raised safety concerns, but Railways officials claim they have made the arrangements to cater to the large crowds.
