While the city of Mumbai complains and rages about potholes, one man has made it his life’s mission to fill them up one at a time.

Meet Dadarao Bilhore, a Mumbaikar who, after losing his son in a pothole-related accident on 28 July, 2015, started filling up potholes across Mumbai. He is working towards ensuring that a pothole does not take any other person’s life.

He paid a tribute to his son on his third death anniversary by filling up the 556th pothole in the city.

He collects sand and gravel from the waste accumulated at construction sites and uses that to fill up the potholes in the city.

He told ANI:

I don’t want people to face the same fate as my son, Prakash. I will keep working till India becomes pothole-free. Our nation has a huge population. If even one lakh people start filling potholes, India will become pothole-free.

Recently, his sister-in-law met with an accident due to a pothole, and is still recovering.

Bilhore believes that if more people take the initiative to fill up potholes in the city, the authorities will be inspired to take some concrete action to solve this recurring problem.

Potholes claimed 3,597 lives in 2017 across the country, a more than 50 percent rise from 2016, reported Times of India.
