Faced with massive charges of corruption, the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday demonstrated how a prototype of the EVM can be tampered with. The party fielded engineer-turned-politician Saurabh Bhardwaj in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, to impart lessons on how to hack an EVM to all legislators.
The party claims that the prototype is similar to the one used by the Election Commission and has been tested by EVM experts. Bhardwaj carried two units that he said perform the same role as an EVM and can be hacked.
Bhardwaj also claimed that anyone knowing a "secret code" can tamper with the EVMs and the code can be fed into a machine while casting a vote.
The Election Commission has time and again rubbished allegations that EVMs can be programmed to favour any particular party.
Before Bhardwaj's demonstration, Kejriwal tweeted, "Saurabh Bhardwaj will reveal the truth behind a big conspiracy in the country. Satyameva Jayate".
Bhardwaj, who represents the Greater Kailash constituency, claimed that in his capacity as an engineer, he had extensively worked in this area and was aware of how the machines can be fiddled with.
The ‘exposé’ comes close on the heels of massive graft charges hurled by Kapil Mishra at Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders. Mishra, who was sacked from the party on Monday, later mocked the AAP’s EVM lesson.
