In a strange twist of irony, Trump’s childhood house in Queens, New York, has been rented to refugees by Oxfam, an international anti-poverty organisation.
The three-story Tudor-style home was built in 1940 by Trump's father, Fred. It was auctioned to an unidentified buyer in March for $2.14 million and is now available for rent on Airbnb for just $725.
Trump lived in the house on a tree-lined street of single-family dwellings until he was about 4, when his family moved to another home his father had built nearby.
Oxfam rented it on Saturday and invited four refugees to talk with journalists, who shared their stories as a way to draw attention to the global refugee crisis.
The stories of the refugees that you will hear are real testaments to courage and perseverance. We wanted to send a strong message to Trump and world leaders that they must do more to welcome refugees.Shannon Scribner, Acting Director, Oxfam
The Republican President's administration issued travel bans on immigrants from six Muslim-majority countries and on all the refugees.
At a time when the world is facing serious refugee crisis, some people are standing for humanity. Amid the humanitarian crisis, the agony palpable on refugees’ faces cry for compassion and sympathy.
We wonder if Trump liked to hear of these new guests in his old house.
