Reacting to the groove of the Ranveer Singh-starrer Gully Boy’s success, Mumbai Rapper ‘Naezy The Baa’ - who many said Ranveer’s character ‘Murad’ was based on - presented his review for the movie.
Calling the movie ‘terrific’ and Zoya Akhtar’s ‘best work till date’, Naezy said he appreciated the ‘balance’ which she brought into the film about an underground rapper from Dharavi - the largest slum in Mumbai - and his struggle to be recognized in the larger hip-hop/rap scene in the country.
“Ranveer bhai acted really well, he completely got into the character of Murad. And Alia Bhatt killed it. Her role as Safeena, stunned everyone,” he said.
He also praised the ‘feet-tapping’ music in the film and spoke about how although the movie was ‘not a biopic’ on him and that ‘Murad’ was not based on him precisely, he did say that the film was ‘influenced’ by his life-story.
“There is a lot of truth. There is a lot of fiction (in the movie). Overall, I feel that according to the market, and according to the ‘indie-scene’, everything was balanced in the movie and I really liked it.”Naezy The Baa
