Aejaz Khan, popularly known as Chintu, has been making motorbike seats for the past 35 years. He has made motorbike seats from superbikes like Hayabusa to jet skies to vintage scooters in his tiny six by four feet workshop. There are around 5000 bike seat makers in Mumbai but nobody does the job better than Chintu.
Khan’s specialty lies in measuring his client’s height, build and requirement before finalising the seat. For a woman, he adds extra sponge and deepens the seat for extra comfort. And if it’s a skinny person, he makes sure it is comfortable enough to prevent him from getting any back pain.
Chintu has been contributing to the film industry with his fancy yet comfortable seats for actors in movies and award shows. It is this connection to Bollywood that differentiates him from other seat makers. "I have designed the Jet Ski seat for Salman Khan in Partner. His father, Salim Khan’s triumph seat, MS Dhoni’s Hayabusa's seat, SRK’s seat for the movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, for the movie Kill Dil where Ali Zafar is seen riding the bike with Ranveer Singh, Aditya Chopra’s seat for the movie Dhoom where he was experiencing difficulty in getting his feet touch the ground. I had to level the seat to make it comfortable enough for him to execute the scenes. I have also designed the seat for Bobby Deol in Race 3," explains Chintu when asked about his association with Bollywood. "I designed the seat for Jacqueline Fernandez at Lux Golden Awards and Akshay Kumar’s seat for the entry scene at Police Awards," says Chintu.
He charges between Rs 2000 - 5000 per seat. Watch his fascinating story where he explains about his style of work!
