There was plenty of newness at designer Manav Gangwani’s show, where he displayed his collection ‘India @ 70’, on Day 2 of India Couture Week 2017.

Whether it was the cold shoulder trend or the dramatic, flared sleeves, it was all well represented at the show, with each piece sitting flawlessly in the desi couture context.

Another pertinent thing to mention is how different embroideries were seamlessly fitted into the same garment. We saw beautiful lehengas with both, kathakali thread work embroidery and jamawar work from Kashmir. And of course, the fringe saris with lovely fringe blouses were sheer elegance.

Disha Patani as the showstopper was a sweet addition, but frankly, it did not do much to the presentation.

All in all, the show was an interesting assembly of the different embroidery styles that make our country the rich land that it is.
