Kargil Martyr Saurabh Kalia’s Dad Slams Rape Threats to Gurmehar

The father of Kargil War martyr Captain Saurabh Kalia, NK Kalia, has came out in support of Gurmehar Kaur, a Delhi college student who lost her father in the Kargil confilcit.

Gurmehar has faced rape threats for launching a Facebook campaign against the ABVP over the violence outside Delhi’s Ramjas College on February 22.

In an interview, NK Kalia said:

Women of any caste, creed, or of any religion have to be given respect. Whosoever has committed such heinous acts (of threatening Gurmehar with rape) should be punished under existing laws. 

Gurmehar is the daughter of late Captain Mandeep Singh. NK Kalia’s son Captain Saurabh Kalia was tortured and killed by the Pakistani army, causing outrage across the country.

Earlier on Tuesday, Gurmehar Kaur announced her withdrawal from the campaign saying:

I have been through a lot and this is all my 20 year self could take.
